Marvel Announces: "It's Coming..."

So Marvel's Cup O' Joe panel at the New York Comic Con (NYCC) was a few days ago, and while talking about various things going on at the company and their future plans, they flashed an image on the screen for about 30 seconds. And boy, was it a doozy.

It was The Phoenix.

The image they flashed seemed to be taken from the background of variant covers from Uncanny X-Men 526, which marked the beginning of The Five Lights storyline. This implies that the next Marvel event will directly involve Hope and her team. 

I for one am so excited for this. If you couldn’t tell from my username (and my about me section), I’m a HUGE Jean Grey/Phoenix fanboy. I’ve been reading Generation Hope almost religiously, analyzing every little panel, trying to spot hints at Hope’s true relationship with The Phoenix. They’ve dropped tiny hints here and there, teasing like the flirtiest prude in the world. Oh how I desired more, and finally, here it is. The promise that all will be revealed, and in a giant event no less!

The team assembled to guide this event is excellent, with almost all having worked for Marvel in the past, and thankfully, Greg Land’s name is nowhere to be found. There are about ‎3-4 artists, 4-5 writers, so I’m guessing the books involved will be Generation Hope, Uncanny X-Men, Wolverine and the X-Men (Marvel didn’t confirm that this event would involve Jean coming back, but if it does, Wolverine will definitely be involved) and if there's a 4th book it'll be either New Mutants, since they have Nate Grey on the team right now (and Hope has been getting to know him since he's her dad, essentially), or maybe X-Men Legacy since Rogue used to be the liaison between the Gen Hopers and Cyclops, and she seems to have a connection with Hope. 

So be prepared Marvelites, because like the tagline says,

 and it’s gonna be big.

Paul Cornell and Ryan Kelly Announce Saucer Country!

Stormwatch and Demon Knights scribe Paul Cornell and Lucifer artist Ryan Kelly have announced Saucer Country, an original ongoing series that will be published on DC's Vertigo imprint. The series will be making its debut in February of 2012. Here's a look at the official announcement:

Sci-Fi and modern politics collide in Vertigo's new ongoing series SAUCER COUNTRY written by Paul Cornell with art by the extremely talented Ryan Kelly. Cornell is best known for his contributions to Dr. Who, and is currently writing DC Comics-The New 52 ongoing comic book series Stormwatch and Demon Knights. Kelly's, most recent work can be seen in The New York Times Bestseller The New York Five written by Brian Wood.
When the Latina governor of New Mexico is abducted by aliens in the midst of her campaign for President of the United States, she learns that the people of Earth are in imminent danger of invasion. But proving that what she's seen is true will be next to impossible in a world where "mainstream media" has a major agenda and every politician wants their fifteen minutes of fame.
With the help of her dedicated staff and a rag-tag collection of UFO "experts", she'll do what's necessary to save the human race -- which will mean digging deep into the American mythology of alien abduction, UFO sightings, shadow government agencies and conspiracy theory. But first she's got to convince the world she's not crazy ...

Paul Cornell describes the series as "The West Wing does The X-Files". "Saucer Country is about the richness of UFO mythology and all its beautiful and chilling permutations," said Cornell. "I've always wanted to write that." Between story arcs, readers will be treated to "true story" one-shot issues that focus on UFO mythology.
